The Program Teacher will be responsible for implementing in-school programs that help children and youth learn about various artistic disciplines while at the same time supporting social-emotional learning and academic achievement. The Program Teacher also teaches programs at DeltaARTS’ Arts Education Center when not in the classroom, including weekend arts activities and school field trips.
DeltaARTS’ mission is to bring imaginative arts education programs to the Arkansas Delta and surrounding communities. We do this through offering art, acting, and creative writing classes at our Arts Education Center in West Memphis and through arts-integrated in-school programs that support literacy and STEM skill-building. In addition, our Crittenden Youth Theater program produces three plays a year.
The Program Teacher will:
Schedule and teach DeltaARTS’ in-school programs to children and youth.
Schedule in-school time for 5 DeltaARTS’ teaching artists who also do in-school programs.
Track hours of teaching DeltaARTS’ teachers provide in each school for grant reports.
Help the Program Manager implement Saturday community programs including a variety of performing and visual arts projects for visitors to enjoy, story times, and art exhibits.
Help the Executive Director and Program Manager develop new arts-integrated programs to help children increase academic skills through art activities and classes.
An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in education, theater, creative writing, art, or art history.
2-5 years of experience in teaching at a school or nonprofit program.
A self-motivated, independent worker who is goal-oriented and very organized.
Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
This full-time position offers health insurance along with paid vacation and personal time. Because two Saturdays a month are required workdays, this position will have one weekday off two weeks out of each month.
